Why does my wife not support me starting my own business as a financial coach with Primerica?
I have been unemployed since July and received a small severance package that ran out on 10/31/06. I am collecting unemployment benefits while continuing to find employment. I have signed up to become a financial coach with Primerica Financial Services. My wife thinks I need to work a 9-5 job with benefits. Why does she think this? And why doesn't she support me?
she doesn't support you because you aren't bringing in money. you can't get a job and then do your little coaching thing? I think its possible that you can. Maybe she'll turn around, you never know. One of my sister's professors is friends with this lady who had a problem sorta like that. Her husband was investing all this money into this business he wanted to start and they got broke and the marriage got depressing and they split, now he's making millions of dollars because he owns FEDEX! What a fool…

Maybe your job gets paid on commission and she knows how hard it is to live on commission money. Maybe she feels that you don't know what you have gotten your self into? I don't know! Ask her!

Primerica is a difficult business to be involved in. The income is not guaranteed and you really have to be good at self-motivation in order to make it work. Since she's your wife, she either doesn't believe that you have the proper mental capacity in order to make this business work for you (it's extremely difficult) or she's concerned that you will not be making a large amount of income for several months.
Talk to her and find out why she's not supportive. This business is hard enough when you have support of loved ones. It's even harder without it.

I have known several people involved as financial coaches with Primerica. ALL of them are broke. ALL of them have destroyed their marriages. It seems almost like a CULT. I am not kidding these people become weirdos – all excited about these dreams and they get caught up in them – nothing works out the way they hoped – they way the "Great Jim Bone" (however you spell his name) makes out like a bandit. It sounds too good to be true and I think it is, personally.
I threated to divorce my wife if she did it. I was dead serious.

Does she have a job too? If you are the sole bread winner it might be difficult to take a huge risk with your own business. Make a pros and cons list of why you think this will help your family and why you want to do it. Then talk to your wife if this is something you really want to do maybe get a second job at a grocery store or starbucks that offer their parttime employees benefits… it may be more work but it will show your wife that you are committed to your idea and as little as you will be getting paid at the second job you will at least have some income and benefits to fall back on.
